About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our client’s established agricultural operation in Regional Northern Territory.

In this role, you will maintain and repair a diverse fleet of heavy vehicles, agricultural machinery, and plant equipment to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and operational efficiency across the property.

Summary

The Heavy Mobile Plant Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing a range of heavy mobile plant, fleet vehicles, mechanical equipment, and hydraulic systems used across remote worksites, stations, communities, and regional operations.

This hands-on role is suited to a trade-qualified mechanic who is practical, reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

The position involves workshop-based tasks within the on-site farm workshop, including scheduled servicing and maintenance. The successful candidate must be comfortable working within a regional farm environment and representing the business professionally at all times

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to heavy mobile plant, fleet vehicles, equipment and associated mechanical systems.

  • Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs within the on-site farm workshop.

  • Carry out hydraulic hose diagnosis, removal, replacement and repair on agricultural and plant equipment.

  • Inspect machinery and equipment to identify wear, safety issues and required repairs before failures occur.

  • Complete repairs efficiently to minimise client downtime and maintain strong service standards.

  • Maintain service records, job notes, parts usage and maintenance documentation accurately.

  • Identify parts and consumables required for jobs and communicate these clearly to management or administration.

  • Use tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop resources safely and correctly.

  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop, vehicle and work environment.

  • Assist with workshop growth and operational improvements as the business expands its mechanical capability.

  • Uphold company standards in safety, presentation, work quality and client communication.

Qualifications & Experience


Essential

·       Relevant trade qualification as a Heavy Mobile Plant Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Plant Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or closely related mechanical trade.

·       Demonstrated experience in heavy equipment, diesel, plant, fleet or field service maintenance and repair.

·       Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

·       Ability to work unsupervised and manage jobs from inspection through to completion.

·       Own tools suitable for the role.

·       Willingness to obtain Australian driver’s licence.

·       Sound mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.

·       Reliable, self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a small team.

·       Ability to communicate clearly with clients, team members and management.

·       Commitment to safe work practices and high-quality workmanship.

Desirable

·       Experience working in remote areas, stations or community-based service environments.

·       Experience with hydraulic systems and hose repair.

·       Welding, fabrication or fitting experience.

·       Forklift ticket, white card, first aid or other relevant licences/tickets.

·       Experience maintaining mixed fleets and a broad range of mechanical equipment.
