Overview

Salary range $85,000 - $95,000 AUD base plus superannuation

This division, operated through our client, a well established Aboriginal Corporation is currently seeking the skills of a qualified Carpenter, to support the growing demand for carpentry and building maintenance works across the Mid-West (Western Australia) Based in Meekatharra as either a live in or FIFO role, you will report up to the Building Manager and work on a diverse range of government and private contracts. Providing predominately, carpentry skills, the position will suit a person who has general knowledge and experience working across a number of property maintenance and building works areas.  

Role & Responsibilities

·Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements

·Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed

·Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements

·Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items

·Lay out floorings, roofings or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible

·Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated

·Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance, have the ability to draft up quotes as requested from the Building Manager,

·Build scaffolding and other construction structures

·All serious incidents must be reported to their site manager immediately.

·All accidents and incidents are to be recorded on the appropriate forms from the

· Maintain Tools and Equipment to remain in a safe condition and keep a current asset register.

·Ensure that vehicles used are maintained and kept clean with weekly monitoring of oils, waters, tyres, etc. Any faults are to be reported to the Safety Officer. 

·Multi-skill as needed and perform other duties as instructed by your Building Manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

·Current Drivers Licence;

·Proven experience as carpenter and overall property maintenance

·Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials

·Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction

·Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)

·Ability to read technical documents and drawings

·Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times

· Good knowledge of English

·Good understanding of basic math

·Good physical condition and endurance

·High school diploma; Successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program is required

· Demonstrated work ethic in community development and ability to problem-solve.

·Experience working with Aboriginal families and/or communities in remote and regional areas (ideal, not essential).

Minimum 1 years experience and a Cert III or 3 years experience may substitute qualification requirements.
