Position Summary

The Qualified Carpenter is responsible for carrying out high-quality carpentry and building work across a variety of projects, including new builds, renovations, extensions and smaller construction packages such as sheds, decks and bathrooms. This is a hands-on role suited to a trade-qualified carpenter who can work productively across both local and remote jobs and who brings a practical, professional attitude to site-based work.

The position requires someone who is capable of working independently when needed, contributing positively within a team, and maintaining strong standards of workmanship, safety and reliability. The role offers significant variety and travel, with work undertaken across Katherine, surrounding regions, stations and remote communities in the Top End.

 

Key Responsibilities

·      Carry out general carpentry and construction work across new builds, renovations and extensions.

·      Construct and install sheds, decks, bathrooms and related structural and finishing elements.

·      Assist with the fabrication and installation of footings, trusses and other building components, either on site or in the workshop.

·      Read and interpret plans, drawings, measurements and specifications.

·      Undertake site set-out, framing, fixing, fit-off and general carpentry works as required by each project.

·      Work effectively on a range of residential, rural and remote construction jobs.

·      Ensure building work is completed to a high standard of quality, accuracy and durability.

·      Work safely and in compliance with company procedures and relevant building standards.

·      Operate hand tools, power tools and plant/equipment relevant to carpentry tasks.

·      Maintain a clean, organised and safe worksite, vehicle and work area.

·      Travel to regional and remote sites throughout the Northern Territory as required.

·      Work collaboratively with mechanics, apprentices and other team members to deliver projects efficiently.

·      Provide guidance and practical support to apprentices where appropriate.

·      Communicate professionally with clients, suppliers and team members on site.

·      Identify issues early and contribute practical solutions to keep projects moving.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

·       Trade qualification in Carpentry.

·       Demonstrated experience in practical carpentry and general building works.

·       Experience across some or all of the following: new builds, renovations, extensions, sheds, decks and bathrooms.

·       Strong ability to work from plans and specifications.

·       Own tools suitable for the role.

·       Current driver’s licence.

·       Willingness and ability to travel and work in remote and regional locations.

·       Strong work ethic, reliability and ability to work independently.

·       Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a small business environment.

·       Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship.

Desirable

·       Experience working on rural, regional or remote-area projects.

·       Experience with set-out, framing, fit-out and general all-round carpentry.

·       Experience fabricating or assisting with trusses, footings or workshop-prepared construction components.

·       White card and any additional construction-related licences or tickets.

·       Experience mentoring apprentices or working in small teams.

·       Broad practical skills across general building and maintenance work.
